Description:

Chrome is a ray-tracer written for the Windows95 environment. It attempts to combine the complexity of producing realistic images from mathematical models with the simplicity of a user-friendly graphical user interface.

Key Benefits

  • Create your own objects from mathematical equations, or choose from some pre-defined ones.
  • Creates different image formats, sizes, and qualities.
  • Extensive help.
  • Handles reflections, shading, shadows, image mapping, glare, intersected objects, and more.
  • Easy to use graphical interface, with saveable projects.

Dr. Doug Burkholder first approached me with the idea for Chrome. He described a box with a tiny peephole. The inside of the box would be plastered with images. Differently shaped objects would be placed inside the box. The objective of the program would be to produce a realistic image of the view through the peephole.

I immediately liked the idea. I was also interested in Windows programming, and thought that combining the two would result in a unique and interesting project.

Instructions:

Here is my program. Unzip and install. Before you hit the big R button, you should look at the help file to at least get a general idea of what you are doing.

The program is as turned in for my senior project. There are still some bugs, I know. Save your project frequently. Sometimes it will exit the program for no apparent reason. However, it should not lock up. I would be interested in suggestions.
